Living in Farr West
Farr West sits on the northern edge of Weber County, right off I-15 Exit 349, with Plain City to the west, Harrisville and Pleasant View to the east, and Willard Bay just a couple of exits up the freeway. It's a place where new neighborhoods like Legends Crossing sit a few minutes from open farm fields, a public golf course, and a fishing pond in the city's biggest park. I live here, and this is the guide I'd give a friend who's thinking about making the move: the parks we actually use, where we eat, where we shop, how long the drive really is, and what the year looks like in town.
Parks & Recreation
Farr West has five city parks, a rec center next to City Hall, a public 18-hole golf course, and some of Northern Utah's best water and mountain recreation within a short drive.
City Parks
Smith Family Park (2441 W 4000 N) is the big one, and the heart of summer in Farr West. Kids head straight for the zip line playground, swings and climbing structures. There's a fishing pond ringed by small pavilions, a walking and biking path, pickleball and basketball courts, and a riding arena. Two large pavilions (8 tables each) and a smaller one (4 tables) make it the go-to spot for family reunions and birthday parties, and it's home base for much of the July 4th Freedom Festival.
Mountain View Park (1500 N 1700 W) has a big open grass field, a playground, a large pavilion and a walking path. The city holds its spring Easter Egg Hunt here, and the Freedom Festival's Park 2 Park bike ride starts here.
Farr West Park (2090 N 2000 W) is a neighborhood park with a large pavilion, a playground and a baseball diamond.
Civic Center Park (1896 N 1800 W) sits right next to City Hall and the Recreation Center, with a large pavilion and a playground.
North (Jackson) Park (2565 W 3300 N) is a quieter park in the north end of town with a large pavilion and a playground.
Pavilions at the city parks can be reserved through the Farr West City website. Farr West doesn't have a splash pad of its own; families usually head to neighboring Harrisville for that.
Farr West Recreation Center (1896 N 1800 W)
The city's rec center has an exercise room, a basketball court, pickleball courts and a kids' area, and it runs the city's youth sports programs. Resident memberships are $15 a month for an individual or $55 for a family, and seniors can get a free lifetime membership with an $8 key card. There's senior pickleball (55+) on Friday mornings.
Remuda Golf Course (2600 W 3500 N)
Farr West has its own public course. Remuda is an 18-hole, par-72 course that opened in 2005, with a 300+ yard driving range (grass and covered mat stations), a practice green, cart and club rentals, and discounts for golfers 55 and older. The homes around the course are one of Farr West's most established neighborhoods.
Trails, Lakes & Open Space
Inside the city, the paved paths at Smith Family Park and Mountain View Park are the best places for a daily walk, and Farr West's quiet farm roads are popular with road cyclists. For real elevation, Ben Lomond Peak (9,712 ft) towers over the north end of the valley. The Ben Lomond Trail starts at North Fork Park in Liberty and climbs about 6 miles to the summit, with a waterfall around mile 1.6, and it's open to hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. Many locals take the North Skyline Trail up from North Ogden instead.
Willard Bay State Park is a 9,900-acre freshwater reservoir just north of Farr West. The South Marina is at I-15 Exit 351, two exits up from Farr West's exit, and the North Marina is at Exit 357. Expect boating, fishing, beaches, campgrounds, and bald eagle viewing in the winter.
Pineview Reservoir in Ogden Valley, east of Ogden, is the summer spot for paddleboarding, boating and fishing. Heads up: the Port boat ramp and Windsurfer Beach are closed through 2026 for Forest Service construction, but Cemetery Point, Anderson Cove, Middle Inlet and Pelican/Quist Beach are open.
The Harold S. Crane Waterfowl Management Area, west of Plain City on the Great Salt Lake wetlands, is a favorite for birdwatchers and waterfowl hunters. And in winter, Nordic Valley, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain in Ogden Valley are all an easy day trip for skiing.
Dining
Farr West's restaurants are clustered right at the freeway, on 2700 North (SR-134) and 1850 West around I-15 Exit 349, with more choices just east on the same road in Pleasant View.
