A Skate and BMX Park Is Coming to Meadows Park in Farr West

by Dessa Wright

Good news for Farr West families: the city is planning a wheels park (a park for skateboards, BMX bikes and scooters) at Meadows Park, and the money to start building is in place. Here's what I've learned from the city meetings, and what else is happening with Farr West parks.

Meadows Park is brand new. It isn't on the city's list of Farr West's five current parks yet, and the city hasn't announced its exact location. I'll share it as soon as it's public.

The grant is signed

At the September 3, 2026 City Council meeting, Councilwoman Katie Williams reported that the city had signed a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for Meadows Park, worth about $393,610. The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a federal program that helps cities build parks and outdoor recreation. With the agreement signed, the project can move toward construction. When the city applied for the grant, its plans included a new playground.

A wheels park on the east side

The wheels park is planned for the east side of the Meadows Park property. City leaders did their homework first: Councilwoman Williams and Mayor Bolos met with West Jordan to learn from that city's wheels park. On October 1, 2026, the City Council considered a design agreement with American Ramp Company, a skate park designer whose team includes pro skateboarders and BMX riders, for about $54,000.

The design comes first, so it will be a while before anyone's riding. I'll post updates as the plans take shape.

  • Veterans Bricks at Smith Family Park. Councilman Bob Blind is leading a project to honor local veterans with engraved bricks at Smith Family Park.
  • A parks master plan. This spring the city asked residents to join a steering committee to help guide the future of parks, trails, open space and recreation.
  • Paying for parks as Farr West grows. In July the City Council took up a plan for park, trail and open space impact fees. Impact fees are one-time fees paid when new homes are built, so growth helps pay for the parks new neighbors will use.
  • Trails. The city's trails plan aims to connect neighborhoods, schools and business areas with safe walking and biking paths.

Why parks matter when you're buying a home

For a lot of my first-time buyers with young kids, being able to walk to a park is near the top of the wish list. A new playground or wheels park can make a neighborhood more appealing for years to come. If you're house hunting in Farr West, ask me which homes are close to the parks, or to where new ones are planned.
