Parent's Guide to Ogden Schools
How do school boundaries work in Ogden?
Every home in Ogden School District is assigned to one elementary school, one junior high and one high school based on its address. Ogden's elementary schools have changed a lot in recent years. Bonneville Elementary closed after the 2024–25 school year, and most of its students moved to the brand-new Hillcrest Elementary building, which opened in fall 2025. Liberty Elementary opened in 2022, replacing T.O. Smith. James Madison and Taylor Canyon elementaries have also closed. So an older listing or a neighbor's memory may name a school that no longer exists. Always check the current boundary.
How can I check which schools a specific address feeds?
Use the district's Boundary Maps & School List page, or call Ogden School District at (801) 737-7300 with the exact address. This matters most near the city's edges. Neighboring cities like North Ogden, Harrisville, Marriott-Slaterville and South Ogden are served by Weber School District, so two homes a short walk apart can be in different districts. If you're looking at a home with me, I'll check the address with you before you write an offer.
Which junior high and high school will my child attend?
Ogden has three junior highs (Highland, Mound Fort and Mount Ogden) and two traditional high schools (Ben Lomond and Ogden High). Ogden uses a junior high model: grades 7–9 in junior high and 10–12 in high school. Your address decides which ones, so use the boundary map above.
Does Ogden offer Spanish dual language immersion?
Yes. Ogden School District offers Spanish Dual Language Immersion, where students learn part of the day in English and part in Spanish. East Ridge Elementary is one of the schools that offers it. Spots and locations can change from year to year, so ask the district which schools have openings for your child's grade.
Are charter schools an option?
Yes. Charter schools are tuition-free public schools, and any Utah student can apply no matter where they live. Most use an application and a lottery, and popular grades fill up fast, so apply early, usually in the winter before the school year you want. Check each school's website for its deadlines.
Can my child attend a different public school? (Open enrollment)
Often, yes. Utah law lets families apply to attend a school outside their assigned boundary if that school has room. Ogden School District calls this a boundary exception. For the next school year, Utah's early application window generally runs from mid-November through the first Friday in February. Families can also apply later, but openings may be limited. Transportation usually isn't provided when you choose a school outside your boundary. Check the district's registration and enrollment pages, or call (801) 737-7300, for current forms and dates.
How do schools affect home values in Ogden?
School assignments are one of the first things many buyers look at, so they're part of how homes are priced and how quickly they sell. That said, Ogden has a wide range of homes, from historic houses near downtown to newer homes on the east bench. School choice gives families more flexibility than in many cities. My advice is to decide which schools matter most to you first, then look at homes assigned to those schools, or within an easy drive of the charter school you have in mind. When you sell, knowing and clearly stating your home's current school assignments helps buyers feel confident.
Looking for a Home Near the Right Ogden School?
Finding the right school and the right house at the same time is a lot to juggle. As a Realtor specializing in Ogden, I help families match the schools they want with the homes available near them. I check every address's current school assignments before you make an offer. I work with first-time buyers, families relocating to Northern Utah, VA buyers and anyone ready for their next move, and I also help Ogden homeowners sell.
