Best Schools in South Ogden, Utah: A Parent's Guide for Families
If you're looking at homes in South Ogden, the schools are probably high on your list. That's true for most of the families I work with. South Ogden has neighborhood schools close to home, and you can reach several charter schools with a short drive. In this guide you'll find every public school that serves South Ogden, the nearby charter and choice options, and answers to the questions parents ask me most.
A quick note on addresses: Many South Ogden homes and schools have "Ogden" in their mailing addresses (ZIP codes 84403 and 84405), even though they're inside South Ogden city limits. So if a school's address below says "Ogden," don't worry. It's still a South Ogden school.
How the School System Is Organized
South Ogden is served by Weber School District. Students go to elementary school for kindergarten through 6th grade, junior high for 7th through 9th, and high school for 10th through 12th. South Ogden has its own junior high, and most students finish at Bonneville High in neighboring Washington Terrace.
Public Schools Serving South Ogden
Elementary Schools (K-6)
Burch Creek Elementary
Grades K-6

Burch Creek is one of the newer schools in town. Weber School District built it with funds from its 2012 bond, on the land where South Ogden Junior High used to stand. The new school combined two older South Ogden elementary schools, Club Heights and MarLon Hills. Because it sits on a former junior high site, its campus is bigger than most elementary schools have.

A Parent's Guide: Your School Questions, Answered
How do school boundaries work in South Ogden?
Every home in Weber School District is assigned to one elementary school, one junior high and one high school based on its address. Those assigned schools are called your "boundary" schools, and your child has a guaranteed seat there. Boundaries don't always follow city limits, and the district can adjust them as neighborhoods grow. So two homes a few streets apart can still go to different elementary schools.
How do I check which schools a specific home feeds?
Don't rely on a listing or a map app for this. Use the district's own tools:
- Open Weber School District's Boundary Maps and find the address.
- If a home sits near the edge of a boundary, call the district at 801-476-7800 to confirm.
- Check again before you write an offer, since boundaries can change from one school year to the next.
When I'm helping a family, I check this for every home we're serious about. That way there are no surprises after closing.
Can my child go to a school outside our boundary?
Yes. Utah allows open enrollment, which means you can apply to a Weber School District school other than your boundary school. Here's how it works in Weber School District:
- Early enrollment runs from November 15 through the first Friday in February for the next school year. The district sends its answer in writing by March 31, or within six weeks of your application, whichever is later.
- Late enrollment applications can be turned in any time outside that window.
- Space decides. A school can say no if it's full or doesn't have the program your child needs. If you're turned down, you can appeal to the district's Boundary Exception Committee.
- You drive. If your child attends a school outside your boundary, getting them to and from school is up to you.
- You usually don't have to reapply every year. You'll need a new application when your child moves up to a new school level, for example from elementary to junior high.
The current forms and details are on the district's Open Enrollment and Boundary Information page.
Are charter schools a separate process?
Yes. Charter schools aren't part of Weber School District's open enrollment. Each charter school has its own application and deadlines, so check each school's website early, usually in the winter before the school year you want.
Do schools affect home values in South Ogden?
They can. Many buyers start their search by school, so homes within walking distance of a school, or inside a boundary that families are asking about, often draw more interest. When you sell, it helps to name the schools your home feeds in the listing. When you buy, it's smart to think about how a home's school assignment might affect resale later, even if you don't have school-age kids.
What should I ask when I'm touring homes?
- Which elementary, junior high and high school is this address assigned to right now?
- Is the elementary school close enough to walk to, and is there a safe route?
- Is there a bus stop nearby, or will we be driving?
- If we're planning on a charter school, how long is the drive at school drop-off time?
- Have there been any recent or planned boundary changes in this area?
